A wonderful antique nephrite jade archer's ring or scholar's ring in rare reddish brown and cream colors similar to the color of chicken blood stone. Originally this type of wide band ring was worn by archers to protect their bow finger. Later, scholars wore them on the thumb as a badge of honor. It measures 30 mm wide (approximately 1.25 inch) wide and is a US size 13. It can, of course, be worn on a thumb or finger but it also makes a beautiful pendant when worn on a thick cord. It has a nice fatty luster and silky texture and is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Dates from the 18th/19th century.
