Enrique Ledesma, a second generation silversmith, is considered one of the greatest Taxco silversmiths of the 1950s. His sculptural elegance undoubtedly stems from his education as as a sculptor at the San Carlos Academy of Art in Mexico City, but he received his early training as a silversmith from his father, working in his silver workshop as a boy. After his years in Mexico City, he relocated to Taxco and worked for Spratling, Aguilar and Los Castillo. Spratling chose Ledesma to be one of the three maestros to train the Alaskans when they were in Taxco in 1949. He opened his own workshop in 1950 and has jewelry is highly regarded for design quality and the seamless blending of stone with silver. Ledesma's work is highly collectible and very difficult to find. He mostly worked in obsidian with silver making other stones extremely rare. He died in 1979. His work is now highly sought after.
