A rare antique Chinese enamel symbolic lock dating from the late Qing Dynasty, 1800s. These symbolic locks were originally worn around the necks of children as a protective talisman to lock in health and good fortune. They later became popular as jewelry worn by the lucky women who could afford them. This lock pendant has a new gray silk cord and white bronze clasp. Enamel is on both sides of the lock. Good condition; wear commensurate with age. The lock measures approximately 2.5 inches across and 2 inches high not including the metal tassels which add about another 2.5 inches. The necklace measures 20 inches long not including the pendant. Antique enamel lock pendants such as this are becoming very difficult to find as they are coveted by collectors.
