A fine large museum quality antique Hetian nephrite jade symbolic lock pendant on a forest green silk neck cord. In Chinese mythology the lock is a symbol of good fortune and a way to lock out evil. Color is pale celadon with a russet area. Unusual shape in that one side is concave. Measures approximately 3.75 inches long and 2.5 inches high. Weighs 85 grams. It dates from the Qing Dynasty, 18th/19th century. There is a pattern of incised Chinese characters on both sides.
I have been collecting and selling jade for many years. This is part of my collection that was verbally authenticated at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum in 1974.
