A very interesting antique nephrite jade carving of foliage dating from about 1800-1850. It is a pale celadon green with areas showing the skin of jade. Skin of jade is the outer covering of a jade boulder that is sometimes artistically incorporated into a design by the carver. At some time in the past, this carving was fitted with silver fittings in flower shapes so that the piece can be worn horizontally as a large pendant. These fittings could be easily removed if desired so the carving can be worn vertically. This is a substantial carving weighing 84 grams. The workmanship is good and the piece has a smooth, silky finish and beautiful fatty luster. It measures just over 3.5 inches long and about 2 inches at the widest point.
