A gorgeous antique embroidered Chinese ivory silk long coat embellished with hand done embroidery employing primarily the forbidden stitch. Photographs do not do justice to the embroidery. The forbidden stitch is a type of tiny knot stitch which was thought to cause severe eyestrain or blindness, hence the name. It is sometimes called Peking knot. There is also considerable couching especially along the collar, sleeve bands and hem borders. Will fit medium to larger sizes. Dates from the late 19th or early 20th centuries circa 1900. Great condition.
