In ancient China infants and young children wore detachable collars made of several segments, usually five or six. This collar has five lobed segments each containing butterflies and other insects and animals including a cat, a rooster, birds, a grasshopper and flowers. Finely done hand embroidery on silk. It is backed in bright pink cotton and is in fine condition. It measures approximately 11 inches in diameter. This collar is from the Qing Dynasty about 1850. Collars such as this make beautiful home decor when framed.
