It All Began with a Rooster....
My shop is curated with a designer's eye, but my obsession with antique jewelry began when I was a small child and my grandmother would take me to pawn shops and antique stores looking for hidden treasures. I was immediately hooked and from then on saved my pennies to buy beautiful things that had been overlooked. I literally grew up in the antiques business spending countless hours in the London antique shop owned by my grandfather and uncle. They had a wonderful but eccentric guard rooster who would fly squawking at anyone he didn't like. Fortunately, we were good friends. Eventually, design became my profession, first as an interior designer where I still look for unusual vintage items for my clients. Later I expanded my interests, searching out vintage and antique treasures and combining them into original jewelry designs or beautiful pillows. I love transforming abandoned, neglected items into new designs and giving them a second life.Textiles are another obsession and I am now sharing my extensive collection of Fortuny and antique textiles made into pillows which I offer through my Elegan Artifacts site. To me, antiquing is the ultimate form of recycling. Taking magnificent items which were made with care and pride and incorporating them into contemporary life adds a richness and depth that is incomparable. I also love antique books and have now added an Antiquarian and Rare Book section to my shop. My husband got me hooked on jade and together we have amassed a large collection of jades from the Neolithic Periods to the Qing Dynasty and beyond which we are now offering to discerning buyers.
I have sold my designs through my design and antique business for many years but when I wanted to reach a larger audience, I immediately thought of opening a shop at Etsy because of its reputation for artisan created goods. After several years as a successful seller on Etsy I decided to branch out with my own site, so here I am still doing what I love to do and hoping to draw some of you along with me in the discovery of beautiful things.
